Cadwell Outfitters offers overnight summer horse pack trips and rides by the day or hour into the La Garita and Powderhorn Wildernesses of Southwestern Colorado. You will step back in time, as you ride horseback into the wilderness, experiencing the majestic scenery of the trails of the past that were ridden by the Ute Indians and later, trappers, miners, and cowboys. 

     The La Garita Wilderness is a vast wild area only accessible by horse, mule or hiking  You will have opportunities to photograph the native wildlife (elk, moose, mule deer, rocky mountain sheep to name a few) on the ride to the historic long abandoned 1890's mining camp in which you will be staying.  Spring Creek, which runs through the valley, is abundant with trout.                                                 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At the head of the valley is the beautiful

lodge in which you and your party will stay.                                               

 

 

 

 

 

        The magnificent views out of  the lodge will simply take your breath away.  This rustic lodge is located on private land, owned by the Cadwell Outfitters, which is within the wilderness area. It has two bedrooms, an upstairs loft with sleeping area, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. The lodge is semi-modern, with running water, hot showers, propane lights, stove and refrigeration, but no electicity is available in this remote area.  

Your gear and food will be packed in for you.

 

 

 

 

 

Trout fishing is availabe outside your door in Sping Creek and  private ponds.                      

 

     You can also enjoy hiking and guided horseback rides up to the continental divide.   You may also want to just kick back, relax and enjoy the peace and quite of this beautiful valley.   Authentic cowboy music is provided around the fire at night.

     Cadwell Outfitters offers from two to five night trips.  Price per night is $200.00.  This includes the ride to and from the lodge and day rides during your stay.  The ride to and from the lodge can be arranged from a two hour up to a seven hour ride depending on the skill and ability of the riders.  This price also includes the pack horses needed for your gear, your stay in the lodge and fishing on private ponds and streams. This price does not include your food.  We will pack your own food in for you. We can cook an authentic cowboy supper for those who would like for an extra fee of 30.00 per day. 

     Minimum parties of two and maximum of  eight are allowed on the trail.  A 50% deposit required for bookings.

     Day rides are also available without spending the night.  Day ride rates are $50.00 for two hours, $70.00 for a half day and $100.00 for full day.  Eight hours is considered a full day.  

     You may also bring your own horses or mules for a reduced price. Contact us for details.  Special arrangements can be made far larger groups that envolve some non-riders.

       Drop camps are available for people who want to bring thier own camping gear.  Rates are 150.00 per pack horse per day.
